NEW DELHI: Rainfall accompanied by hail and dust storm brought a huge respite to residents of the simmering national capital on Sunday.
Rainfall and hailstorm in several parts of Delhi and adjoining areas at around 3.30 pm considerably brought down the temperature.
Temperature dropped by almost 13 degrees, from 38.4 degrees to 25.6 degree Celsius within five minutes, with winds blowing at 96 km per hour gusting through the city bringing rain and hail, the weather department said.
While the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.2 degrees Celsius, which is normal for the time of the season, the minimum settled at 20.6 degrees Celsius, five points below normal.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature was 39.8 degree Celsius and the minimum was as 24.8 degrees.
The weatherman has predicted a partly clouded sky, with possibility of rain and thunder showers on Monday. While the maximum temperature is likely to be 39.0 degrees Celsius, the minimum is likely to be 21 degrees.
The month of May began with a sizzling 44.2 degrees Celsius, the season's highest. In the past 10 years, the month of May has recorded maximum above 44 degree Celsius five times. The record for the past ten years was 46 degree Celsius which was recorded on May 19, 2002.
