Pak sings a Taliban-bashing song
NAGPUR: The ditty is the latest bit of propaganda warfare that the Pakistani establishment has launched, this time in cyberspace. Faced with an internal enemy in Pakistan Taliban, the establishment in our western flank is looking to involve public opinion in its favour in its raging battle in Swat. The four-minute song is seen by experts as serving twin-purpose: a message to the troops to bash 'dahshat' (terror)while simultaneously introducing the Pakistani diaspora to the seriousness of the problem.
A note in the You-Tube link describes it as "a new song by ISRP'' probably a typo, meaning Inter-Services Public Relations the public interface of Pakistani army. The song trills about Taliban as an enemy worse than India. A stanza says, "Earlier there were conspiracies from across the border (India), but now there's more trouble from within.'' It exhorts soldiers to wipe out terrorists. Curiously, footages of Pakistani army overrunning Indian territory of Khemkaran are shown while these lines are sung. However, again, the last stanza stresses on finishing off the new enemy, the Taliban. Qamar Hayatt, a Nagpur-based Urdu expert who helped translate the song, said it's a rousing call to battle terrorists: the first words of the song stand for 'Operation Rah-e-haq' the official name of the Swat offensive.
Military analyst and former director general (infantry) Lt General PR Prasad says this is a marketing gimmick by Pakistan to get more aid from the US. "There's no point to singing songs when close to 30% of the Pakistani army is Talibanised. All Pakistan wants is aid from the US to be used in hi-tech defence hardware which is not a requirement to fight the Taliban," said Lt Gen Prasad. "This means nothing. Pakistan is only trying to show the US that it's serious about bringing the terrorists to the heel,'' said editor of Indian Defence Review, Capt Bharat Verma, after watching the song on YouTube.
