The release date of the third instalment is expected to be announced at this year's E3, and PS3 owners and journalists alike are champing at the bit for any information about the all-new adventures of the Ghost Of Sparta.

The sequel to Ubisoft's highly acclaimed open-world adventure is on every games journalist's wishlist. Action reportedly has moved from the Medieval Far East to Renaissance Italy with the protagonist wielding two blades instead of one. At E3 our journalists will hopefully get their first hands-on preview and an in-depth look into one of 2009's most anticipated titles.

Alan Wake
Platforms: Xbox 360, PC
Developer: Remedy Entertainment
Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios
Release date: tbc

Now that Duke Nukem Forever has stalled indefinitely with the closure of 3-D Realms, Remedy's horror title, Alan Wake, has assumed the mantle of the "Chinese Democracy" of video games. The developers of Max Payne have shrouded their forthcoming Xbox 360 exclusive in so much mystery over its plot details and release date, some industry stalwarts are starting to doubt if it'll ever see the light of day. E3 would be the perfect place to quash these rumours and even if a release date isn't in the offing, a hands-on preview would go a long way towards reigniting rabid interest.

This chilling thriller developed by Quantic Dream is the second E3 heavyweight that PS3 owners should start feeling a little smug about. The Sony console exclusive promises not only to provide a dark, engrossing gaming experience, but to break the mould of traditional game storytelling once and for all.

Brütal Legend
Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360
Developer: DoubleFine Productions
Publisher: Electronic Arts (EA)
Release date: 16 October 2009

We caught a glimpse of Tim Schafer's heavy-metal adventure starring Jack Black as the world's greatest roadie at the EA preview last month. As its release date in (R) October rolls forward games journalists are scrabbling for more details and we're no different. The chance to get to grips with Brutal Legend would be a most triumphant coup.

DJ Hero
Platforms: tbc
Developer: FreeStyleGames
Publisher: Activision
Release date: tbc

Ahead of Activision's preview in London, details were thin on the ground about the latest Guitar Hero spin-off. We also don't mind telling you that the received wisdom was that DJ Hero was going to be rubbish. However, a demo by FreeStyleGames not only silenced the naysayers, it practically blew our minds, and we fully expect to find the UK- based developer swamped at E3.

BioShock 2
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Developer: 2K Boston
Publisher: 2K Interactive
Release date: November 2009

The sequel to 2K Interactive's 2007 steampunk horror classic arrives creaking under the weight of the expectation heaped on it. Not only did the original BioShock deliver an unmatched FPS experience, it deconstructed the works of Ayn Rand. Can BioShock 2 live up to these literary expectations? At E3 we plan to find out…

Mass Effect 2
Platforms: Xbox 360
Developer: BioWare Edmonton
Publisher: EA
Release date: (Rumoured) early 2010

EA's space opera looks set to continues, with developer BioWare Edmonton telling all owners of the previous game to keep their saved files; apparently their decisions from the first game will carry over into the sequel. We won't have our saved games at E3, but that won't stop us making a b-line straight for Mass Effect 2's stall.

Project Trico
Platforms: PS3
Developer: Team Ico
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Release date: Who knows? Or dares to dream...

Unconfirmed for E3 at this time, Project Trico is the latest title from the geniuses who gave the world Ico and Shadow Of The Colossus. A trailer of early game footage leaked onto the internet sent the web into meltdown. We admit to being weak-kneed at the prospect of taking a closer look at E3.

Halo ODST
Platforms: Xbox 360
Developer: Bungie
Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios
Release Date: tbc

As evidenced with Halo Wars, the word "Halo" stamped on a video game box pretty much guarantees rabid interest from all quarters of the gaming industry. Halo ODST promises to be darker in tone than its predecessors, but the exceptional FPS action seems to be present and correct. Bungie says that Master Chief won't feature in its new adventure, but even this admission probably won't stop a queue forming in front of th eHalo ODST booth.
