:|: MHO :|: Is Dhoni really an icon?

Is Dhoni really an icon?

The convening cricket association for
the East Zone selection has stated that
Mahendra Singh Dhoni,
 India's captain,
could not be considered for the
Duleep Trophy match
against West Zone,
starting in Mumbai on February 29,
 because
he could not be contacted.

A source has been quoted
as stating that Dhoni is not available
 because of
commercial commitments.

 A photograph
appearing in some morning newspapers recently,
shows Dhoni in Coorg in the company
 of batsman Robin Uthappa
and billiards star Pankaj Advani at a temple,
but
otherwise on a holiday.

Is it right to speculate that
cricket for Dhoni
will resume at the Indian camp
prior to the
tour of New Zealand?

He has been given a sort of carte blanche that
he can do what he likes in his free time
and not even think of the game?

East Zone is being captained by
 former Test batsman,
Shiv Sundar Das,
who would have been
expecting Dhoni to take charge.
What a fillip it would have been for the team?
But
then is Dhoni interested in such mundane matters?

According to many
he is a superstar and a youth icon,
and
does not have the time to play first class cricket.
 Other Indian cricketers
cannot afford to or dare to,
 think on these lines.

It is now a school quiz question
to ask
where Dhoni hails from?

Of course,
the answer is Ranchi,
which is in Jharkand
whose team also plays in the Ranji Trophy.

In fact,
Jharkand
has replaced Bihar
in the Ranji Trophy in the zone.

That is politics
the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) brand.

This has nothing at all
to do with
Laloo Prasad Yadav or Shibu Soren.

However,
does Dhoni have any plans to improve cricket in his state?
There would be so many kids,
who would want to excel in the state,
looking up to him.
But
since he cannot be contacted
and is occupied with his commercial commitments,
how would he find the time?

The BCCI,
hopefully, would be curious to know that
a current Test cricketer confided to
a junior colleague in his state team
that he does not find the motivation to play
 in the Ranji Trophy.

With Dhoni's example,
avoidance of first class cricket
by the stars could become an epidemic and,
in the long run, hurt Indian cricket.

As far as Indian cricket is concerned,
are these Dhoni's true colours?
