In response to rumors that combining Coca-Cola and the flavor enhancer monosodium glutamate (MSG) can be used as a 'date rape' drug that works as an aphrodisiac or can be used as a 'date rape' drug, the Coca-Cola Company published a statement dispelling the myth.

The Coca-Cola Company states that "There is no factual or scientific basis for concluding that Coca-Cola is an aphrodisiac -- whether or not it is combined with MSG"

mono-sodium glutamate (MSG) is also known as Aji-no-moto (Ajinomoto) which is a popular brand name for the flavor enhancer.
