RAJ THACKERAY The King of Mumbai
SwaraRaj Shrikant Thackeray (born June 14, 1968)
He is the nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, and cousin of current Shiv Sena ย Executive President Uddhav Thackeray.
The Name Swararaj Thackeray in 1968 in a Marathi Kayastha (CKP) family ย to Shrikant Keshav Thackeray and Kunda Thackeray,
ย Shrikant Thackeray was the younger brother of Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray and Raj's mother Kunda Thackeray ย is the younger sister of Balasaheb Thackeray's wife Meena Thackeray.
ย Raj's father Shrikant Thackeray was a musician, cartoonist and was also well versed in the language of Urdu. ย He also made a couple of Marathi films. ย Raj is married to Sharmila, ย daughter of famous Marathi theater/films actor, producer-director Mohan Wagh. ย They have one son named Amit Thackeray and one daughter Urvashi.
Like his father and uncle Raj is a painter and cartoonist. He had also expressed his desire to work for Walt Disney Studios. Raj Thackeray said when asked what he would have done had he not joined politics. ย "In my college days, I wanted to work with Walt Disney Studios. I drew cartoons even before my foray in politics. ย Film making is also a passion. I would have been doing either of these things."
Raj Thackeray is also a avid photographer ย like his cousin Uddhav Thackeray.
Raj has also published a photobiography on his uncle ย titled 'Bal Keshav Thackeray - a photobiography.
ย Ironically Raj Thackeray inaugrated this book from the hands of Amitabh Bachchan.
In order to create ย industrial and rural development in Maharashtra, ย on 14 June 1996 Raj Thackeray officially formed the Shiv Udyog Sena and appointed its executive committee. It was also to "give self-employment loans to jobless" ย Marathi youth.
In the same year, he organised a Michael Jackson concert ย for the first time in India at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai. ย The objective of the concert was to raise funds for the organisation.
Once seen as the future leader of Shiv Sena, ย he started his political career with Bal Thackeray's Shiv Sena party in Maharashtra. On 9 March 2006, he formed the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) ย after being allegedly 'sidelined' by the Bal Thackerays son Uddhav. Shiv Sainiks (Shiv Sena members) who supported his leadership, in contrast to his cousin Uddhav ย (Bal Thackeray's son), joined the MNS. ย The party was founded ย on the ideology of being the benefactor of the local Marathi population (Marathi Manoos), an ideology that the party members felt the Shiv Sena had given up on.
The Marathi Community or Maharashtrians (Marathi: เคฎเคฐเคพเค เฅ€ เคฎเคพเคฃเคธเค or เคฎเคนเคพเคฐเคพเคทเฅเคเฅเคฐเฅ€เคฏ) are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group, that inhabit the Maharashtra region and state of western India. Their language Marathi is part of the southern group of Indo-Aryan languages. Although their history goes back ย more than a millennium, the community came to prominence when Maratha warriors under Shivaji Maharaj established the Maratha Empire in 1674.
The Marathi people are also known as Maharashtrians. ย The whole community ย was called Maratha or Marathe (plural of Maratha) ย between the 17th and 19th centuries. ย However, at the beginning of 20th century, due to the efforts of Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur, the peasant Marathi class called Kunbi started using the ย word Maratha to describe themselves.
ย So that in current usage, the term Maratha applies mainly to the group ย mentioned before rather than the wider Marathi community. In the Marathi language, they refer to themselves as marathi manoos. They are called Marathi people because of the language they speak, Marathi.
The majority of Marathi people are Hindus. Although Krishna in the form of Vithal is the most popular deity amongst Marathi Hindus, ย they also worship the Shiva Family deities such as Shankar & Parvati under various names and also Ganesh. ย The Warkari tradition holds strong grip on local Hindus of Maharastra. The public Ganesh festival started by Lokmanya Tilak ย in the late 1900s is still very popular. Marathi Hindus also revere Bhakti saints of all castes, such as Dnyaneshwar (Brahmin), Tukaram (Moray Maratahi-Kunbi) , ย Namdev (Shimpi-Artsian, Vaishya) and Chokhamela (Mahar).
There are also ย significant minorities of Muslims, ย Christians and Neo-Buddhists. ย The Neo-Buddhists are followers of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Marathi Muslims belong mostly to the Sufi tradition. Visiting the tombs of Sufi saints is very important ย to this community. Hindus also visit these tombs in great numbers, especially during the annual Urus.
There is also a 3000 strong community of Marathi Jews, popularly known as Bene Israel Most of the rest have migrated to Israel. ย Before the migration ย this community numbered at least 90,000.
 The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena
At the time of the party's foundation, Raj Thackeray stated that he does not want to have hostilities with his uncle who ย "was, is and always will be (his) mentor".

-- Sriram Savarkar ยฉ Hinduism is more a way of life than a method of worship. Dharmo Rakshati Rakshithaha If you protect Dharma, Dharma will in turn protect you. Hindus, If people slap you once, slap them twice!
