:|: MHO :|: ‘Dial 139’ on train.

For all railway enquiries, all one had to do was call 139, a 24/7 helpline. Soon by dialling this number, you could order a pizza or a burger or plain lunch/ dinner while travelling by train.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) and the Indian Railways will begin offering this premium service in a couple of months.

THALI, NOODLES...

According to S Gagarin, chief regional manager of IRCTC, south western zone, besides fast food, commuters could choose between Indian, Continental and Chinese dishes. Commuters, however, would have to place their orders two hours in advance. The order will be delivered to commuters at the nearest rail station.

He said bookings for pizzas or burgers will be taken only at select stations. "All these services will be offered at competitive prices," said Gagarin.

DIAL A TAXI

This service comes close on the heels of the Railways launching 'dial a taxi' scheme last month. This service will soon be rolled out in 25 cities across the country.

Gagarin said, "This service will be offered round the clock. We will ensure customers pay the actual charge and are not overcharged." Passengers will also have the option of picking the cab of his choice.

DIAL A HOTEL

The Railways is also contemplating offering 'dial a hotel' service via 139. It has sought expression of interest (EoI) from various hotels and would start offering these services in the next two months. For this service, the Railways plans to tie up with five-star, two-star and budget hotels.

139 service is being operated by IRCTC, which provides passengers information on PNR status, arrival/departure of trains, seat availability, fare and accommodation. The number can be dialled from BSNL and MTNL landlines, and Idea, Vodafone, Spice and other cellphones.
