{M:H:O} Sugarless Tea and Tasteless Daal

Sugar less Tea and Tasteless daal (pulses) doesn't mean i am going to give you a diet chart so that all of us can loose some weight and can burn some calories but its the scenario being found in many lower middle class homes.

The prices of eight essential commodities such as wheat, pulses, tea, coffee, sugar, spices and non-vegetarian products has increased at an average of 30-60 % in the last one year.Ironically the household or individual's incomes have increased at the rate of 6 percent.

Sugar prices in Mumbai itself has reached around Rs 50 along with the other essential commodities for house holds.

Recalling one of the incidents recently when i went to meet my friend and he was scolding his cook . " Kya bhai Jaan lega kya, Daal patli banaya kar,Pata nahi kya tumhe ki daal 100 Rupae kilo hai."

Sleeping as always.

Unfortunately, the advisory from the government (which can be interpreted as a directive) has come too late, and is akin to closing the stable after the horse has bolted.

Primarily, the Government dragged its feet for too long in first recognizing the existence of the problem of shortage and need to augment supplies. After the problem snowballed in terms of escalating prices, the way it was handled left much to be desired. Clearly, there are different dimensions to the issue.

Though technically we claim sugar as a cyclic crop in India and wipe off the hands but the fact is, we have never been able to regulate/ deregulate the drastic market swings and provide consistency to framers on sugar pricing as most of it is through cooperatives and it's a more political crop in India. The same price has been given to sugarcane farmers even after there is price rise in everything.

Root Cause :-

More demand and less supply of these food items is the main reason behind this price rise, a situation arising out of lower market arrivals and lower procurement. This is clearly the case of ignorance by the government.

Worst Coordination among the various arms of the government – Ministries of Agriculture, Commerce, Finance and Food to meet the demands and setting long term goals.

The most important reason :-

Neglecting Farmers of this country. All across India its the farmers who are the most affected people in these bad times.Weaker Monsoon, less money to buy seeds and invisible help from the Indian government all helping the farmers in a negative path. The situation is really alarming.

Government authorized cold storage stocks are piled up with grains and other commodities (last year's production) and now the same is rotten as the care taken cold storage agencies is awesome.

Either blame the Government which ruled for 5 years or some one who has been ruling for countless years ,the situation is the same. They say we are trying our best to empower the poor but is that really happening on the ground?

Nobody cared for farmers , so accordingly the un-employment rate increased as more and more farmer left the field and came to metro cities to earn for their living.

We think if something happens to some farmer in some village its not gonna affect us ? That's wrong assumption my friend. It affect us badly.Next year will be even dreadful and drastic, just wait and face the heat.

The time will come when burgers, sandwiches and Pizza's will become most popular than the Indian sweet dish's.Sugar less tea will become a fashion soon. Obvious reason is dieting/weight loss. The equation is as simple as that.

Ignore farmers = Price Rise.

Regards
Shail
