Bangalore-based pharma company Strides Arcolabs is awaiting the green signal from the Centre for stepping up production of its anti-swine flu drug.
The firm began production of a million Oseltamivir capsules on 10/08/09 at its plant with available raw material. "We are awaiting the Union government's directive for producing the capsules. We have the capacity to produce two million capsules a month," said V S Iyer, CEO, Strides Arcolab.
Once it gets the nod, the firm only has to get the raw material, which is obtained from some extracts. As of now, it is selling only to the government.
In each batch, the company produces a million capsules. The process takes 3-4 days followed by testing and packaging.
tamiflu equivalent In June, Strides had announced commercial supply of Oseltamivir capsules to various nations. It's one of the few approved manufacturers in India of the product, which is a generic equivalent of Tamiflu (from Roche).
Oseltamivir's bio-equivalence to Tamiflu has been established, according to company sources.
